"I was ass over teakettle in love, and I wanted everyone to know about it.
"Except for her."

Y'know, this bit right here was pretty much your mistake.

I suppose you probably know that now. The one thing I managed to get absolutely right very early is that telling someone that you're in love with them is not a bad thing, at least if you're interested in dating. At least if you can pull off "I'm wildly in love with you -- It's OK if you're not in love with me, though, I'll be cool". Or in a case like this "I don't want to mess up your relationship with your boyfriend though."

I once spent a lovely month hanging out with a girl I had a terrible crush on, who had politely turned me down. Astounding and unusual lack of awkwardness.

"My mama always seh-yud 'perfect is as perfect does.' "

No, wait. That was...

Never mind.

"Perfect for you" is an entirely different concept from the ideal "perfect." Of course. MarkyMark, you have a point, but don't forget that you can find that one who is perfect for you--most suited to the person you are and the kinds of things for which you share a passion. I can't remember the saying but there's one that goes something like "that" person may not be perfect but because you love him [her], he[she] is perfect for you." This does hold some truth.

As for the "easy laughter, balmy nights", etc, they DO fade. In every relationship, to at least some degree, even if not entirely. Whether you can restore those things to that place in your life and bring it to the present situation or not is the variable. I've seen it work like that and I've seen people make it work. It's depressing when it fades and people just accept it, for me personally, because every day should be marked with some of those wonderful beginnings, even when life gets mundane, because you remember what you saw in each other. But the thing to remember is that everyone's experiences are as varying in shapes and sizes as underwear.

Unless you're a guy.

Love does change, tho, and it's up to us to pay attention,

the "perfect girl" is only perfect until the next "perfect girl" comes along, only then do you realise shes (perfect girl 1.0) not quite as beautiful/funny as when she was perfect... everyone sees the opposite sex through rose-coloured glasses when were smitten, no? I do anyway...

"the fun times, the easy laughter, the balmy nights (...) will all fade"

Then you're in the wrong relationship.

its all great - the whole teen angst "does she like me, does she know i like her thing" - that never really goes away.

the tension in a "just friends" but "could be more" is killer, and painful, and beautiful, the ache and longing, the rush of adrenaline at a casually mistaken touch - but it goes away.

its the allure of the new, the temptation of the unknown, when/if you take that next step and you're somewhat successful - remember it will fade, the fun times, the easy laughter, the balmy nights and carefree nature of your relationship will all fade

There's a girl I like (really hot) who talks about her boyfriend all the time. We hang out together a lot and do "date" type things (movies, dinner, etc.). She even bought a Vespa and wants me to go riding with her (I have one, too).

Can't wait for the next entry! I gotta know if I have a chance! :(

You say that when girls really like you, they don't talk about their boyfriends when they're with you. What about guys -- if a guy talks to you all the time, and NEVER talks about his girlfriend (someone he's been dating for years and years), what does that mean?
